Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers
The Sixers have been one of the NBA’s best teams the last half decade and, as a result, are a popular team to bet on.
Philadelphia 76ers Franchise History
Since moving to Philadelphia in the 1960s, the 76ers have enjoyed one of the NBA’s most storied histories.
From winning NBA titles with Hall of Famers like Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, and Moses Malone to owning two of three lowest winning percentages in a single season, 76ers fans have seen it all.
After their last NBA championship in 1983, mediocrity defined the Sixers in the mid ‘90s.
Then, The Answer came along.
The Answer, Sixers-great Allen Iverson, brought Philadelphia back to the edge of basketball immortality, but he ultimately failed to win a title for City of Brotherly Love.
In the post-Iverson era, the 76ers popularized “tanking,” the strategy of putting together a sub-par team in an effort to land high draft picks that could change the course of the franchise overnight.
This tanking effort led to four top-three draft picks in four years. One of those picks was perennial-MVP-candidate Joel Embiid, the most popular Philadelphia star since Iverson.
Embiid’s arrival took the Sixers from bottom-feeder to yearly contender, making the team a fan-favorite and often a betting favorite.
Betting on the Philadelphia 76ers in Pennsylvania
Retail and online sports betting are both legal in the Keystone State, and almost all of the country’s top legal sportsbooks offer their product to Pennsylvanians.
Bettors can find almost any betting market for Sixers games by signing up for FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and a handful of other legal online sportsbooks.
With so many legal operators, Sixers fans have ample opportunity to bet on their beloved team in any which way they please.
A common basketball wager is a spread bet. We’ll use an example of the 76ers playing host to the Boston Celtics.
· 76ers -5.5
· Celtics +5.5
Here, the 76ers are the favorite and the Celtics are the underdog. If a bettor places a wager on the 76ers -5.5, the 76ers need to win the game by at least 6 points for the bet to cash.
If the 76ers win by less than 6, or if they lose, the bettor would lose their bet.
76ers’ Sportsbook Partnerships
Because Pennsylvania has offered legal sports betting since 2019, the Sixers have had the opportunity to partner with several sportsbooks.
First came FOX Bet in late-2019, then DraftKings in early-2020, BetMGM in late-2020, and, most recently, Betway in the fall of 2021.
All of the Sixers’ sportsbook partnerships consist of in-arena or digital signage, radio or TV broadcast sponsorship, and a variety of other sponsored stat graphics and videos during games.
For bettors, these partnerships can lead to special offers and promotions in a team’s state. We will continue to do our best to inform you when these offers pop up!
